Botched Robbery Ends in Car Crash — Aug 11, 2017

A botched robbery attempt at Google landed two East Bay men in jail when they tried to take a laptop without paying for it and crashed into a pole during the escape. Officers responded at approximately 1:30 p.m. to a robbery report at the 1600 block of Amphitheater Parkway but learned the car related to the incident had already crashed into a pole. The two men tried to run from the scene but were detained by a Google security officer and a passerby. The two men, 20-year-old San Pablo resident Luis Bravo and 19-year-old El Cerrito resident Bomani Bassette, had arranged a meeting with a man to buy his laptop but jumped in their car and took off instead of paying for the laptop. The victim of the robbery had been sitting in their car when they took off. He tumbled out as they drove off, sustaining slight injuries. The two men were jailed for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and kidnapping during a robbery.
