Corning Crash Delivers Major Injury to Woman — August 16, 2017

An early morning crash in Corning badly injured a Gerber woman Wednesday. The crash blocked South Avenue at the Hall Road intersection for several hours. One driver, Maria Cuevas, 48-years-old of Gerber, was taken to the hospital with major injuries. Robert Roy Calvert, 38-years-old of Corning had minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. The crash occurred when Cuevas stopped in her 2014 Honda Accord at South Avenue as she drove north on Hall. She entered into the intersection in direct line of Calvert’s 2004 Ford Explorer going east. It took rescuers over 30 minutes to extricate Cuevas. Drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the accident.
