LAFAYETTE -- A motorcyclist that may have been driving between cars while splitting traffic crashed and was injured Monday morning, backing up traffic on Highway 24, the California Highway Patrol said.

The CHP listed a severe traffic alert on westbound Highway 24 at 6:45 a.m. after the crash, which involved the motorcycle and three to four other vehicles, CHP Officer Kevin Bartlett said. The CHP lifted the alert at 7:16 a.m. after the two far left lanes that had been blocked were reopened.

The motorcyclist was seen lying near the center divide after the wreck, but the extent of injuries to the driver weren't known immediately, Bartlett said.
