Survivor of Fatal Crash Forced to Sleep in Tree — Jan 21, 2017

Approximately 8 a.m. on January 12, police received reports of a car which had run off-road from Highway 101 into Outlet Creek in Mendocino County. Natalie Griffin, 19-years-old of Castro Valley, found her way to the road and waved down a car. She explained to the driver that she had been in the accident the night before and spent the night in a tree for survival. When police went in search of the car, it was not visible from the highway. It was eventually found almost fully submerged at approximately 300 feet from shore. A rescue swimmer confirmed the driver, 19-year-old Jenna Santos, from Alameda was deceased behind the wheel.
